Simply Less is More has a one layer challenge - Birds. I used a pale blue card blank, applied dark blue acrylic paint to the bottom of a bottle to use as an interesting shape, and then painted inside it with a blue Twinkling H2O to get an interesting shimmer. I then used a bird stamp from Cavallini, masking it to use two inks in different colours.

Christmas in Hawaii

It's a long time since we went to Hawaii - Dec 2005 - but I finalygot round to creating two scrapbook layouts. Although I used different colour cardstock, I made a few elements common to both: the flowers, representing the Hawaiian lei; the American Crafts letters, and the text.

Daring Cardmakers first challenge of 2012 is a colour combination. I used a Stampington stamp, Dreamward; stamped and then chalked the background, highlighted the dress with some glitter glue, painted a Grungebord panel and computer generated a sentiment.

I dusted off my Inkadinkadoo chandelier stamps and enjoyed playing with my new Adirondack Color Wash sprays in stream and cranberry. I first stamped them with Versamark and then sprayed with the colours. I stamped again on acetate using silver ink and embossing powder.

One Word

Last challenge of the year at Simply Less is More is One Word. My word is Celebrate from a stamp by Stampin' Up! To create the dress background I randomly sponged inks and then embossed with pale pink embossing powder. I then over stamped with My Mother's Dress in purple ink.

With the start of Advent today, it's appropriate that the card challenge Winter Wonderland wants to cards featuring the Nativity, Mary and Jesus.

For the backgrounds I used Adirondack Color Wash and sprinkled Doodledug flock (left); for the piece on the right I applied alcohol inks. I love the combination of blue and silver for Christmas.

I created the background first, using Twinkling H2Os and some Doodlebug flock applied while the paint was still wet. I sprinkled a little glitter over the top - the card is quite sparkly, although you can't see it. My fairy silhouette is a stamp by Lavinia Stamps.

New craft space

I know how crafters like to see each other's craft space, so here's my new den. We've relocated the home office to a new conservatory, so I now have the box room as my own craft den. It's quite small but as DH says, at least he can close the door on the mess (!). Anyway, it's quite tidy so far. But I haven't done any crafting for weeks because my stuff was boxed up in the transition. I'm waiting for a new unit from Storage4Crafts which will go under the desk.

Shaker Card

I've always loved shaker cards but it can be a pain getting positioning the foam pads to stop the sand, or your chosen "shake" from escaping. So I was interested to see new plastic spheres, available from Hunkydory Crafts, which provide a better seal.

This card was for a friend who loves the seaside. I stamped the cottage scene and coloured it with Copics and Twinkling H2Os, and did the same for the seagull (Elusive Images).
I sealed the sphere with PVA but not before adding some builder's sand.

It wasn't 100% effective - some of the sand has been escaping. Anyone else tried these spheres? I would like them to be in a smaller size as they are quite large.

A tough challenge at Daring Cardmakers: feature a foreign language and try to find a card from five years ago to show how your style has changed!

I'm unable to go back 5 years because my PC with the card archive is currently unavailable to use....but I did find a card that's about 3 years old and hasn't featured in a challenge before. I used to do a lot more collage and here you will see I used jigsaw pieces from Woodware, painted them and stamped using a stamp from Crafty Individuals. Spiele is of course German for play.

Birthdays Galore

I haven't been able to do much crafting lately. My craft area, our old lean to, has been demolished, and I haven't yet been able to set up my new area in what was our old office. So with my craft stuff secreted all over the house, plus my craft PC out of action, craft time has reduced to almost zero.

October is a very busy month for me on the birthdays front. Fortunately I made some cards a few months ago. My husband's birthday is this week and for him I made a card featuring cyclists because he cycles to and from work when he's in London. I created the background with acrylic paint and added some texture with tiny beads and Perfect Pearls. I always love the combination of pink and green.

An intriguing challenge at Daring Cardmakers: interpret "Chasing Cars" by Snow Patrol. I'm sure the meaning of a song is different to everyone but to me the line "forget the world" reminds me of carefree summer holidays, where you literally do forget the world for a fortnight.

My card is multi-layered. The first layer has acrylic and textured paint; the second alcohol inks, with stamping of seashells from the Cavallini set.

My wedding album

So while I haven't been taking part in any challenges lately, I haven't been completely idle. I have been creating an album of my wedding photos.

My dress was silver-grey with mauve / lilac flowers so I've mostly used the colours purple, white, lilac and cream. For shots where the guests are featured, who wore many different colours, I mainly used cream cardstock and accented some of the more striking colours.

The civil ceremony was at Marylebone Town Hall in central London and the reception in a private room at Hardy's Bistro, round the corner.

I'll share a few more layouts this week. I still have a few more to create, including the run-up to the wedding and the honeymoon. It was a fantastic time.

Gingersnap Creations: Fairies

I haven't posted for over two months and appear to have lost my mojo! I bought vast amounts of stash ready to scrap my recent wedding but still haven't got round to it. In the meantime, here's my entry for Fairies at Gingersnap Creations.

Lots to do: Friendship

Here's my entry for the Friendship challenge at Lots to Do. The photo shows my mum on the right and her friend Maureen when they were 18, posing on Plymouth Hoe. Mum's two-piece was knitted and became so heavy in the water, the first and only time she wore it, that she had to be dragged out.

I made some colourful fish with glass paints on acetate and used stamps by Cavallini.

It's always exciting to discover a new art challenge, particularly when the standard is as high at it is at Gingersnap Creations. There is a new challenge every Wednesday and each one is valid for three weeks. This is my entry for Botanical. I used tree stamps by Stampin' Up and had fun with shrink plastic and dried flowers.

I used gesso and Glimmer Mists for the background and then had fun with some collage elements.
