Time for Tea

Time for tea is the challenge at Sunday Postcard Art. And what could be nicer than a cup of tea?

Mermaid

Oh I loved making this with the theme "Mermaids" courtesy of Sunday Postcard Art. I used gold leaf for the tail, Glimmer Mists for the background and stamps by Cavallini and Artifacts.

Cupid

Well it's Valentine's Day so a theme of Cupid is perhaps inevitable at Sunday Postcard Art. I found the image of Cupid killed by his own arrow quite amusing, so this one is for everyone (like me) who hates Valentine's Day!

Time

Sunday Postcard Art's challenge this week is Time. My interpretation with the grim reaper is a little macabre I'm afraid! Title and pocket watch stamps by The Artistic Stamper.

When I saw the Sunday Postcard Art challenge of Edgar Allan Poe, my heart sank. I don't really know much about him. But some research online corrected that failing and I was able to create a postcard.

Nursery rhymes

I gave a macabre treatment to my chosen nusery rhyme, Mary Mary Quite Contrary, this week's challenge at Sunday Postcard Art.

When I did some investigation on the web, I found an excellent UK site about the history of nurdery rhymes - rhymes.org.uk - and learnt that many of them go back in history and the seemingly child like imagery actually refers to torture.

In Mary Mary, the rhyme is about Mary Tudor, "Bloody Mary", thus called because she sent thousands of Protestants to the gallows. The silver bells are thumb screws and the "pretty maids" a guillotine called the Maiden. Mary's garden is the cemetery.

How precious are these rhymes when you consider how old they are and how we can still recite a lot of them by heart.

I used dimensional paint to represent blood, a photo of Mary Tudor, Gail's font (my own handwriting courtesy of Your Fonts) and sketched a gallows scene from Tudor England,colouring with Copics.

Fashion & Acetate

A great challenge over at Sunday Postcard Art, fashion. Here is my postcard.
Meanwhile over at Lots to Do, the challenge is acetate. I created an aperture shaker card with acetate, using glass paints. Stamps by Cavallini.

Vintage bathing beauties

What better photo to use than a picture of your mum with her best friend, both aged 18, on Plymouth Hoe?

"Vintage bathing beauties" is the theme at Sunday Postcard Art. My mum (on the right) knitted that bikini herself and recalled that in the sea, it became so heavy she had to be virtually dragged out of the water.

Happy Birthday!

Sunday Postcard Art is celebrating its first anniversary and the theme appropriately is "Happy Birthday!.
Here is my card. It has quite a lot of sparkle, although you can't really see it from the photo.

Numbers

A bit late posting my entry for "Numbers," this week's Sunday Postcard Art challenge. I went to switch on the PC earlier and found the power had been switched off upstairs, which explained a lot of the banging and cursing coming from the spare room, which has been stripped of furniture and floorboards.

Anyway, power now restored, here's my postcard. It's not a great photo - the words read "life is so sweet" with glittery writing.

Postage People

A great challenge over at Sunday Postcard Art to create postage people. I wish I'd kept my childhood stamp album! Surprisingly few envelopes have stamps nowadays, most are franked. Fortunately I had a recent delivery from the US so I used the stamp of Edgar Allen Poe. I went to town on my postcard with dimensional paint. Fabulous stuff!
